Way too much profanity to post this on my styropyro channel, but there's still a lot of awesome footage here and I wanted to share it anyway. I hiked into the Lusk Creek Wilderness with some friends to view the August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse. In this video there are a bunch of clips of us exploring the canyon as well as observing the eclipse. This was one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed. Our reaction to totality is a lot like that double rainbow vid...lots of gasping and swearing.
I'm so glad I didn't watch the eclipse in some crowded area with a bunch of noise. It was amazing hearing the critters of the night come out when totality hit. I had been excited for this eclipse since I was 7 years old, and I knew years prior to the event that I wanted to see it from the wilderness. For how awesome the trip turned out, there was virtually no planning beforehand and until the day of the eclipse...I was just going to hike out in the woods with my friend Sean until I found out other friends were in the area.
The footage is a combination of mine and from my buddy Muhammad Mansour. We shot on identical phones (samsung galaxy s7) but he is much better at messing with the settings and therefore was able to get better views of the sun itself.
This was the first time I had ever hiked the Lusk Creek Wilderness without seeing a venomous snake...
